Online Craps for Real Money

Craps is easily one of the most exciting games you can play at a casino. It offers plenty of action in a fast-paced, socially engaging environment. Every roll of the dice is filled with anticipation as you root for your bets to win. Most of the time you’re placing the same bets as others, and Craps is possibly the only game where you can feel the camaraderie as you cheer each other on. If you love to play Craps, or you’re just looking for a new casino game to try out, online Craps could be your ticket to new found glory and riches.

While playing online Craps for real money isn’t exactly the same as having a crowd surrounding the table in a live casino, it does offer some unique benefits that make it well worth playing.

If you’ve never played Craps before, let’s start with the basic rules and bets that can be placed. At first glance of a Craps table, you may be a bit overwhelmed with all of the betting options. The table will be filled with numbers and places to bet, but it’s actually quite simple once you understand how the game is played.

Rules

Each game of Craps starts with a person who rolls the dice, called a shooter. The shooter’s first roll will be what determines almost every winning and losing bet, and dictates what bets should be placed from there on out. The goal of the shooter will depend on which bets you place. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 1 on the first roll, all pass line bets will win and the game will start over with a new shooter. If a 2, 3 or 12 is the first roll, all pass line bets lose and the game starts over with a new shooter. If any other number is rolled, this will become the point number.

The point number will be the basis of most bets from that point on. If the shooter rolls the point number before throwing a 7, or crapping out, then all pass line bets win. If the shooter rolls a 7 before the point number, all pass line bets lose and don’t pass line bets win.

Now there are many other bets you can place in a game of online Craps, but the majority of the time you should only be sticking with the pass and don’t pass bets. Just in case you’re wondering what all these bets are, here is a list of bets you can find at an online Craps game.

Craps Bets

Pass Line

If the shooter rolls the point before a 7, that bet wins. It also wins if the first roll of the shooter is 7 or 11.

Don’t Pass Line

This is just the opposite of the pass line bet and will be going against most other bets as the pass line is the most common. If the shooter throws a 7 before the point, all don’t pass bets will win. This bet also wins if the first roll of a new shooter is a 2 or 3. A 12 being thrown on the first roll will result in a push on all don’t pass bets.

Odds Bet

The odds bet will not be shown on the table layout and can go unused if you are not familiar with this bet. An odds bet is placed by setting your chips directly behind the pass line. It may only be placed on the first roll of a new shooter, and you must have placed a bet on the pass line to use this bet. Its payouts are based on what the point number is and are as follows.

  • 4 or 10 pays 2-1
  • 5 or 9 pays 3-2
  • 6 or 8 pays 6-5

There is no house edge on an odds bet, which is likely why it’s not shown, but the casinos may limit you to how much can be wagered on any single odds bet. This amount will vary by casino and is usually in multiples of your pass line bet.

Laying the Odds

This is the opposite of placing an odds bet. It can only be placed if you make a don’t pass bet, and has limitations on how much can be wagered. This bet wins if the shooter rolls a 7 before the point number. Its payouts are based on what the point number was.

  • 4 or 10 pays out 1-2
  • 5 or 9 pays out 2-3
  • 6 or 8 pays out 5-6

Come/Don’t Come

These bets are similar to the pass and don’t pass bets. The main difference being, they can be placed after the first roll of a new shooter. Once a point is established, the second roll will become the point number for all come and don’t come bets. A come bet wins if the point is rolled before a 7, and the don’t come bet wins if a 7 is rolled before the point.

Place Bets

The place bet is just like an odds bet with the exception of not having to place a pass line bet. It pays out based on what the point number is, but with lower odds than the odds bet.

  • 4 or 10 pays 9-5
  • 5 or 9 pays 7-5
  • 6 or 8 pays 7-6

Buy Bets

Exactly the same as a place bet, with a 5% commission going to the house. The only time a buy bet should be placed is when the point number is a 4 or 10. Otherwise it’s a useless bet.

Side Bets

Along with bets that revolve around what the point number is, you will have various side, or prop bets that can be placed. These are single-roll bets that are betting on what the outcome of the dice will be on a single roll. They are generally considered sucker bets and should not be used.

For example, you can bet on a single roll being a 2, 3,4,9,10,11 or 12. You can also bet on the shooter rolling double 4s, and many other bets that lay terrible odds.

Online Craps

The rules outlined above apply to both live and online Craps. You will see very little variations of the game rules between the two. While the rules are no different, you will notice a change in how the game is played.

When playing live, you will have people taking turns as the shooter. Online however, you are always the shooter. This has no effect on the outcome and will play exactly the same, but it is a change in how you play the game online.

You will find some online casinos that offer multiplayer Craps. This lets a group of people play the game in real time with each other. In this version you will find that online Craps is not much different from its live counterpart. Players will take turns as the shooter, and you can even chat and interact with them as you play.

The table layout will likely be the same as you see in a live casino, with all bets clearly laid out (except the odds bet as stated earlier). To place your bets, you simply click the spot on the table where you wish to place a bet. The game will not start until you click on roll, so if you make a mistake you have time to fix it.

This is one advantage to playing Craps online for real money. Live Craps is fast-paced and mistakes can be made if you’re not careful. Online, you are the only one at the table, and the pace of play is dictated by you and only you.

To begin playing Craps online, you only need to find a casino online that offers the game. This won’t be hard as there are a huge selection of online casinos to choose from, all offering Craps. Once you’ve picked the right site, you create an account and make a real money deposit using one of the many safe and secure deposit options.
